What The Test Never Asked You To Do
The practical test lasts about forty minutes and stays close to Cowley. It never takes you on a motorway, never happens in the dark, and rarely happens in bad weather. Pass Plus fills in those gaps while you still have an instructor beside you.
- AYour first motorway, supervisedJoining, lane discipline, overtaking and leaving, done on the M40 in a dual controlled car rather than alone on a Friday afternoon.
- BDriving in the darkHeadlight use, glare from oncoming traffic, judging speed and distance when the reference points you rely on have disappeared.
- CWeather you cannot practise on demandRain, spray, fog and ice change stopping distances and grip. We cover the technique whatever the sky is doing on the day.
- DA certificate insurers recogniseComplete all six modules and DVSA issues a Pass Plus certificate. Some insurers offer a discount for it, though not all do, so check with yours before you book.
The six modules
Set by DVSA, the same six wherever you take the course. You are assessed throughout and there is no test at the end.
- Town driving, traffic, junctions and busy roundabouts
- All weather driving and how grip and visibility change
- Rural roads, blind bends, mud, horses and farm traffic
- Night driving and headlight use
- Dual carriageways, joining, lane choice and overtaking
- Motorway driving on the M40

Get in touch
Call, email or book online. Tell us whether you want manual or automatic and roughly when you passed.
Plan the six hours
We usually split the course into three two hour sessions, arranged around work or study. One of them is scheduled after dark for the night module.
Drive all six modules
Town, weather, rural, night, dual carriageway and the M40 motorway run. Your instructor assesses you as you go, so there is no test at the end.
Get your certificate
Once you have reached the standard in all six modules, you and your instructor sign the DVSA training report form. Send it to DVSA in Nottingham and the certificate arrives by post, usually within two weeks.
Where The Six Hours Actually Happen
Oxford is unusually good for Pass Plus. Motorway, dual carriageway, tight medieval city streets and proper country lanes all sit within twenty minutes of each other.

Wheatley · OX33The motorway module. Slip road, merging, lane discipline, overtaking and leaving, at motorway speeds with dual controls in the car.

Not Passed Yet? Start Here Instead
Pass Plus is for drivers who already hold a full licence. If you are still learning, or you have a licence but have not driven in years, one of these will suit you better.
Automatic lessons
Two pedals, no clutch and no stalling. The most popular choice in Oxford, especially for city driving.
Manual lessons
A manual licence lets you drive both. Worth it if you may need a work van or a hire car abroad.
Intensive courses
Passed your theory and want to get on with it? Lessons packed into days rather than spread over months.
Refresher lessons
You have the licence but not the confidence. Book a couple of hours and get it back without starting over.
Student and NHS rates
Discounted blocks for Oxford students and NHS staff, with pickup from campus or the JR and Churchill.
