What The Test Never Asked You To Do

The practical test lasts about forty minutes and stays close to Cowley. It never takes you on a motorway, never happens in the dark, and rarely happens in bad weather. Pass Plus fills in those gaps while you still have an instructor beside you.

Four Steps, Nothing Complicated

Get in touch

Call, email or book online. Tell us whether you want manual or automatic and roughly when you passed.

Plan the six hours

We usually split the course into three two hour sessions, arranged around work or study. One of them is scheduled after dark for the night module.

Drive all six modules

Town, weather, rural, night, dual carriageway and the M40 motorway run. Your instructor assesses you as you go, so there is no test at the end.

Get your certificate

Once you have reached the standard in all six modules, you and your instructor sign the DVSA training report form. Send it to DVSA in Nottingham and the certificate arrives by post, usually within two weeks.

Pass Plus: Your Questions Answered

What is Pass Plus?
Pass Plus is a practical training course set by DVSA for drivers who have already passed their test. It takes at least six hours and covers six modules: town driving, all weather driving, rural roads, night driving, dual carriageways and motorways. It can be taken at any time, although it is most useful in the year after you pass.
How much does Pass Plus cost in Oxford?
Our Pass Plus course is £300 for the full six hours across our Oxford area, and the DVSA certificate is included in that price. Wheatley, Abingdon and Bicester run on our out of area rate, so please call 01865 763458 for the price if you are picking up from there.
Is there a test at the end of Pass Plus?
No. There is no test. Your instructor assesses you throughout the course, and to complete it you need to reach the required standard in all six modules.
Will Pass Plus reduce my car insurance?
It may. Some insurers offer a discount to drivers who hold a Pass Plus certificate, but not all of them do, and the size of any discount varies. We would suggest checking with your own insurer before you book so you know where you stand.
Do you do the motorway module for real?
Yes. We drive the motorway module on the M40 near Wheatley. DVSA does allow some modules to be covered as theory where local conditions make practical driving impossible, but Oxford has a motorway on its doorstep, so we use it.
How do I get my Pass Plus certificate?
When you have reached the required standard in all six modules, your instructor gives you a training report form. You and your instructor both sign it, then you send it to Pass Plus, DVSA, 1 Unity Square, Nottingham, NG2 1AY. The certificate is posted to you and should arrive within two weeks.
Can I take Pass Plus in an automatic car?
Yes. We run Pass Plus in both manual and automatic. Just tell us which you want when you book and we will allocate the right instructor.
How soon after passing should I do Pass Plus?
You can take it at any time, but it is designed to be most useful in the year after you pass, while the habits from your lessons are still fresh. If you have not driven much since passing, it is worth booking a refresher session first so the six hours are spent on new skills rather than revision.
